ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS FOR THIS SYMPOSIUM ARE NOW CLOSED

(updated 19 Feb 2024)

This symposium will be attended by academic as well as industry experts who are interested in understanding and utilizing the current state-of-the-art in biofilm matrix research and technology. The symposium will offer networking, focus group discussions & poster presentations and hence foster future collaborations. The conference also provides an opportunity for graduate students and early career researchers in this field to further expand their understanding of the topic and broad scope of applications.

Theme 1: Biogenesis of biofilm matrix encompasses the formation of the biofilm matrix and its characterization. This includes production of Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS), composition and study of macromolecules (proteins, polysaccharides, eDNA, eRNA and other polymers) involved in the process of biofilm formation.

Theme 2: Biofilm matrix structure and function focuses on the influence of matrix components on biofilm structural properties, biology, and regulation of the biofilm life cycle.

Theme 3: Biofilm biophysics focuses on biophysical approaches to characterize and model the biofilm matrix, including the structure-function relationships of and between the building blocks and their influence on the emergent properties of the biofilm matrix.

Theme 4: Biofilm and matrix control strategies includes physical, chemical, and biological methods to control and design biofilms in natural, engineered as well as medical applications, with emphasis on mechanistic aspects.
